Emeritus

Emeritus status is proposed by the department, approved by the senate and given to the president for final approval. See the policy manual (BSU 5490-C) for the rules for granting emeritus status to a retiring professional staff member. A perpetual plaque including the names of emeriti is presented at the Spring Awards luncheon.
A. The rank is accorded to members upon retirement who have provided distinguished service to Boise State University and have fulfilled one of the following criteria:
1. Completed a minimum of fifteen (15) years at Boise State University .
2. Completed less than fifteen (15) years at Boise State University , but are forced into early retirement for health reasons provided retirement at the normal retirement age would have fulfilled the 15-year requirement.
3. Completed less than fifteen (15) years at Boise state University, but in the opinion of the recommending department and the Professional Staff Senate, the candidate will be actively interested in the institution during retirement.
B. The application for emeritus appointment is to be initiated by the department in which the candidate held his/her full-time position and to be approved by the dean or division head, Professional Staff Senate, and the president.
C. It is the responsibility of the recommending department to compile a set of supportive credentials to be passed forward with the application. The credentials must include the following:
1. Documentation that the criteria concerning the time of service and retirement status have been fulfilled.
2. Vita or resume for the candidate’s time of service, including time served in any capacity , at Boise State University .
3. Letters of recommendation from at least three (3) individuals from outside the department and professionally acquainted with the candidate.
4. A vote of support by all Professional Staff members of the recommending department.
